Today the Parliament of India approved the Land Boundary Agreement. This is a historic agreement that was signed by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Mrs. Indira Gandhi 41 years ago. It had never been ratified by the Indian Parliament and after the coup of 1975 successive military regimes and governments never pursued. It has taken years of diplomacy and negotiations to solve all the issues, but our Awami League Government has finally achieved yet another historic accomplishment.
This follows on the heels of our tremendous victories in the maritime boundary cases with Myanmar and India where we won the vast majority of ocean rights. I have always said that only a government that is truly nationalistic can attain such victories for the nation. It is not enough just to name yourself nationalist. The Awami League led our Independence movement and is the only true nationalistic party.
On that note, here is my speech from last night at the seminar organized by the Suchinta Foundation where I spoke on nationalism. We must reignite the true nationalistic spirit of our Liberation:

ভারতের সংসদ আজ স্থলসীমান্ত চুক্তি অনুমোদন করেছে। এটি একটি ঐতিহাসিক চুক্তি যেটি ৪১ বছর পূর্বে জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান এবং ইন্দিরা গান্ধী কর্তৃক স্বাক্ষরিত হয়েছিলো। ১৯৭৫ সালের সামরিক অভ্যুত্থানে পর থেকে ধারাবাহিকভাবে সামরিক শাসনের সময় ভারতীয় সংসদে কখনোই এই বিল অনুমোদনের জন্য উপস্থাপন করা হয়নি এবং বাংলাদেশের সরকারগুলোও কখনো চেষ্টা করেনি। স্থলসীমান্ত সম্পর্কিত সব বিষয় সমস্যার সমাধান করতে বছরের পর বছর কূটনৈতিক তৎপরতা ও সমঝোতার দরকার হয়, কিন্তু শেষ পর্যন্ত আমাদের আওয়ামী লীগ সরকার এই ঐতিহাসিক বিজয় অর্জন করেছে।
এটি ঘটলো সমুদ্রসীমা নির্ধারণ মামলায় ভারত এবং মায়ানমারের সাথে আমাদের অসাধারণ বিজয়ের পথ অনুসরণ করে, যেখানে আমরা সমুদ্র-সীমার বেশিরভাগ অংশই জিতেছিলাম। আমি সব সময়েই বলে এসেছি যে একমাত্র একটি সত্যিকারের জাতীয়তাবাদী সরকারই জাতির জন্য এমন বিজয় এনে দিতে পারে। এটা শুধু নামেই শুধু জাতীয়তাবাদি হলে চলবে না। আওয়ামী লীগ আমাদের স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামে নেতৃত্ব দিয়েছে এবং এটা হলো একমাত্র সত্যিকারের জাতীয়তাবাদি দল।
এই প্রসঙ্গে এখানে গতকাল রাতে সুচিন্তা ফাউন্ডেশন আয়োজিত সমাবেশে আমার দেয়া একটি বক্তৃতা আছে, যেখানে আমি জাতীয়তাবাদ নিয়ে বলেছিলাম। আমাদেরকে অবশ্যই মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সেই সত্যিকারের জাতীয়তাবাদের চেতনায় জ্বলে উঠতে হবে।
